Amicalola Falls State Park
 
Amicalola Falls is a short drive north of Big Canoe and is well worth a day of hiking and lunch in the restaurant. The falls are spectacular and the park offers twelve miles of hiking trails. This is a great place for a family outing. (www.AmicalolaFalls.com)
 
Dahlonega, Georgia
 
Dahlonega, Georgia was home of the first US gold rush in 1828.  Located about an hour northeast of Big Canoe, Dahlonega offers a number of restaurants, bars, shopping and year around events. It has become a center for performance and visual arts for the north Georgia mountains. Be sure and eat at the historic Smith House for family style Southern food.
 
Blue Ridge, Georgia
 
Blue Ridge is a delightful mountain town located about an hour and a half north of Big Canoe up highway 515 or highway 52 to 515. The downtown area is well worth a trip for shopping and restaurants. The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway is located in the historic Railroad Depot downtown and is a great 3 ½ hour trip along the Toccoa River (www.brscenic.com). Some of the best trout fishing in Georgia is in the Toccoa River. Visit the Unicoi Outfitters on East Main Street for all of your fly fishing supplies or a guide.
 
Burt’s Pumpkin Farm
 
This is a fall must for your children & grandchildren, featuring pumpkins of all sizes, pumpkin pie, hay rides and it is a north Georgia mountain institution. It’s only about thirty minutes north of Big Canoe (www.burtsfarm.com).
 
Ellijay Apple Orchards
 
Ellijay Apple Orchards are the best apples in Georgia and only located about an hour from Big Canoe on Highway 52.
